The Earth Sciences Education Research Lab focuses on understanding and enhancing Geoscience education through the application of science learning theories and mixed social science research methods. Key areas of this work include:
1. Nature of Geoscience: Investigating how incorporating the history and philosophy of Earth Sciences into curricula can deepen students' understanding and interest in the field.
2. Teamwork Process Skills: Exploring effective practices for developing essential teamwork skills among students and professionals, preparing them for collaborative roles in the geoscience workforce.
3. Inclusion: Promoting inclusive departmental and classroom practices to foster a sense of belonging and confidence among all students, particularly those from underrepresented groups.
4. Climate Change Education: Assessing conceptions held by teachers and students regarding climate change and designing instructional interventions to improve climate literacy, especially in African contexts.

Dr. Nyarko emphasizes creating a welcoming and inclusive research environment. He aims to build a community of practice where students can confidently explore and develop their knowledge. His mentorship style incorporates social learning strategies that encourage teamwork, Geoethics, and inclusion, helping students develop both academically and professionally.
